National Population Commission Begins 2015 Education Survey

National Population Commission has announced the commencement of the 2015 National Education Data Survey from May 11 to August 14.
The survey, like the National Demographic Health Survey, takes place every five years and is the third in the series that will be conducted in Nigeria by the commission. The previous ones were conducted in 2004 and 2010.
The NPC Chairman, Chief Eze Duruiheoma, in an address read by the Ekiti State Director, Mr. Adeniyi Fadairo, in Ado Ekiti on Monday, said the survey  was designed to generate information on the educational status of the Nigerian population.
“The survey is meant to provide policy makers with accurate and timely data to formulate courses of action designed to increase enrollment, attendance and learning to achieve Nigeria’s Universal Basic Education Commission and Education for All goals for the children of school age.
“The outcome of the 2015 NEDS will inform programming that would improve levels of student enrollment and attendance, as well as facilitate equitable access to quality schooling for all children in Nigeria.
“The interview will focus on reasons for not attending school and for dropping out of school, the frequency of pupil absenteeism and reasons for missing school, the costs of schooling and other issues.
“The information will provide insights into the behaviours and attitudes of parents and guardians in the country.”
According to him, it is the households that took part in the 2013 NDHS that would be eligible for the 2015 NEDS.
“In that survey, approximately 38,522 households were successfully interviewed, and our goal is to perform a follow-up NED’S with a subset of the original sample.
“Specifically, the plan is to collect information from 30,000 eligible households, with at least one child aged four to 16, at the time of the 2015 NEDS.”
Promising that the information will be treated with absolute confidentiality, the NPC boss urged the respondents to be patient and provide truthful answers to interviewers.
