More than 20 people have died after two boats carrying migrants and refugees from Turkey to Greece sank in the Aegean Sea overnight.
Eighteen people were killed and 138 rescued near the island of Kalymnos. Another three died and six were rescued near Rhodes.
The deaths occurred amid a surge of crossings to Greek islands involving refugees from Syria, Afghanistan and other countries.
Boats are attempting the crossing ahead of winter, as European governments consider tougher measures to limit the number of arrivals.
Eight people were also killed early on Thursday after a boat capsized off the island of Lesbos.
