Nicki Minaj Under Fire From The Human Rights Foundation Charity

Nicki Minaj is in trouble with the Human Rights Foundation charity after refusing to cancel her concert in Angola. The 33-year-old rapper went ahead with her headline spot at a Christmas festival in the capital of Luanda on Saturday despite protests urging her to reconsider over the country’s controversial human rights record.
To rub salt into the wound, after her slot Nicki shared a photograph of herself wrapped in Angoloa’s national flag on Instagram, writing: “Reppin the flag on my back. ANGOLA I LOVE UUUUUUUUUUUUU.
She also uploaded a video of the packed stadium, captioning the clip with: “ANGOLA HAS MY HEART.”
Thor Halvorssen, the head of the Human Rights Foundation, begged the singer to cancel the gig after it was announced last week.
In a letter to Nicki, he explained: “Ms. Minaj, you are well known for being involved with charities such as the Get Schooled Foundation, which helps motivate young people to graduate from high school and succeed in college.
“If you move forward with this performance for the dictator and his family, you will be in league with the people stealing educational resources and opportunity from young Angolans.”
He also detailed other ways that Angola’s government has been accused of oppression, intimidation, and imprisoning supporters of democracy - with Thor highlighting the case of Angolan hip-hop artist, Luaty Beirao, who was arrested in June after attending a meeting that discussed democracy.
Nicki did not publicly respond to the foundation’s concerns, but fans of the star have also been left disappointed by her actions and took to her Facebook page to share their disdain.
One commented: “Not cool, Nicki, not cool. I guess you don’t care about human rights, eh?”
