Man, 45, Docked for Allegedly Defrauding Monarch of N1.6m

A staff member of Eko Electricity Distributing Company, Nicholas Ufot , who allegedly defrauded a monarch of N1.6 million was on Tuesday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.Ufot, 45, resident of 65, Epetedo St., Ikotun, Lagos, is charged with fraud and stealing. The Prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Aug. 23, 2015 at the Olu of Mushin’s palace, Mushin, Lagos. He said that the accused obtained the N1.6 million from the traditional ruler, Fatai Ayinla Aileru II that he would install electricity in the palace, but never did. “The accused duped the complainant of N1.6million,” Eruada said. He said that the monarch sought the services of the accused to help him install electricity in the palace. “The accused came to the palace through referral and the complainant told him he wants to install electricity in the palace that he should bring quotation for his job. “The following day, the accused came with a quotation of N1.6 million for the erection of three poles, conductors, wires, a 100-KVA transformer and meter. “The accused wrote an undertaking to complete the job within three weeks,” he said. Eruada alleged that after collecting the money from the monarch, the accused was nowhere to be found again. “The accused disappeared with the money, and all efforts made by the complainant to get him do the job or retrieve his money proved unsuccessful. “The accused was later arrested after seven months of his disappearance,” Eruada added.
