The most important signing of Pep Guardiola's new team has been made. According to a report from the Mirror, Manchester City have reached a £25 million agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who will sign a five-year contract with the Citizens. The deal should be officially announced within the next two weeks. Gundogan has been heavily linked with a move to the Sky Blues ever since Pep Guardiola was announced as new City manager. The German midfielder has all the qualities that the Catalan coach looks for to establish his style of play, and will be a key component of the team's development next season.
There is one slight problem: Gundogan suffered a dislocated kneecap in the beginning of May, which put his City move in doubt for a few days. There was fear of the player missing up to a year, but latest medical tests have ruled out the player for only three months. He is going to miss Euro 2016 and the City preseason, but should be 100% healthy for the start of the Premier League campaign and the Champions League group stage if City goes through the qualifier.
Unless something crazy happens, the first signing of the Pep Guardiola Era has been completed. Welcome to City, Gundogan.
