A man who punched and shook his newborn baby to death when she was just two days old has been found dead in his prison cell.Police said Liam Deane, 22, was found dead in his cell at HMP Leeds on Sunday, just one month after he was jailed for viciously killing his daughter Luna in the family home.
Another inmate, John Westland, 28, appeared at Leeds Magistrates’ Court this morning charged with his murder.
Westland was flanked by two police officers and a member of court escort staff as he was brought into the dock.
He remained handcuffed throughout the brief hearing, speaking only to confirm his personal details.
Deane, from Wakefield, West Yorks., lost his temper during the night and subjected Luna to an attack when she continued to cry.
In a vicious attack he punched Luna to the face, squeezed her body and arms and shook her.
Luna was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where she died in intensive care on July 14.
