A social worker and her daughters found dead earlier this week were strangled, post-mortem results have revealed.
Shighi Kotuvala, 37, and her 13-year-old twins, Niya and Neha Rethishkumar, were discovered at their home in Grove Road, Chadwell Heath, east London, on Tuesday afternoon.
The next morning, officers found their father Pullarkattil Kunjunny Rethish Kumar, 44, hanged at a reservoir in nearby Walthamstow.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Post-mortem examinations on the females - who police said were found with no visible signs of injuries - show they were strangled to death.
The post-mortem on Mr Kumar confirmed death by hanging.
Officers had forced their way into the east London home after concerns were raised about the family's welfare.
Police first went to the house on Monday evening, but they did not go in because there was no response and no signs of disturbance.
The matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission and the Metropolitan Police's directorate of professional standards is reviewing the police response.
Detectives are still trying to trace any next of kin.
