Auto Dealer Docked Over Alleged N2m Car Fraud

The police on Tuesday arraigned a 29-year-old auto dealer, Obinna Obiajunwa, in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for alleged fraud and stealing.The prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that the accused, who resides at No. 26, Tiamiyu Lawal St., Iyana-paja Lagos, was arraigned on a two-count charge of alleged fraud and stealing.
He said that the accused fraudulently collected a Pathfinder Jeep valued at N2 million, from one Mr Daramola Akintola, under the pretext of helping him to sell the vehicle.
“The accused collected the Pathfinder Jeep, 2010 model, from the complainant to look for a buyer.
“The complainant told the accused to sell it for N2million, but the accused sold the car for N2.2million and converted all the money to his own use,” he said.
Olatunde further told the court that Obiajunwa made a confessional statement that he used the money to meet his personal needs.
He said it is over a year now and the accused is yet to remit the money.
He said the offences contravened Sections 278, 285 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mr O.A Aka-Bashorun granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Aka-Bashorun adjourned the case till Oct.14 for mention. (NAN)
