Nepal's Second Plane Crash in a Week Kills Two

Nepal's second plane crash in two days killed two crew members Friday and injured nine of 11 passengers on board.A propeller-driven small plane from charter airline Air Kasthamandap, traveling from Nepalgunj to Jumla, crashed near the town of Chikhaya, in western Nepal. The pilot and co-pilot died.
Witnesses said they saw the plane go into a steep descent, its two propellers not rotating, prior to the crash.
A joint team of Nepalese police and army members traveled by helicopter to the scene of the accident to evacuate the injured.
Nepal, a small and landlocked country high in the Himalaya Mountains, has among the world's worst aviation safety records, and the crash Friday came two days after 23 people died in the crash of a propeller-driven plane from airline Tara Air. After bad weather initially hampered the search for bodies and the plane's black box, rescuers discovered the bodies and remaining wreckage at 13,000 feet elevation Thursday.
In 2013 the European Union banned all Nepalese airlines from flying into its territory and since 1949, when the first plane landed in Nepal, more than 700 people have died in more than 70 plane and helicopter accidents.
