Breaking News: Nigeria Gets First Female Governor
The elections petitions tribunal sitting in Abuja has declared Aisha Jummai Alhassan of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected governor of Taraba state, thus sacking Darius Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Mama Taraba as she is fondly called will become the first elected female governor in Nigeria. She is expected to relinquish her position as a minister as she was recently cleared by the Senate and was part of the retreat organised for ministers-designate by the president in Abuja.
However, there are indications that Ishaku will appeal the verdict of the tribunal.

Plane Crashes Near South Sudan Airport
A Russian-made aircraft has crashed in South Sudan shortly after take-off from Juba International Airport, a presidential spokesman says.
The plane was carrying around 20 passengers and crew when it came down 800 metres from the airport.
Wreckage from the aircraft is strewn on the east side of the River Nile, according to Associated Press.
